Myra Christensen
Myra was born April 24, 1931 in Plentywood, MT one of ten children of Nels and Rika (Johnson) Sorensen. She attended school at Lowell and Antelope Elementary, high School in Missoula for one year and graduated from Plentywood in 1948. She spent one year of college at Montana State University in Bozeman. It was that following summer she returned home and was employed at Penney's. It was during this summer that she started dating her soul mate Alvin Christensen. They were married January 1, 1950 at the Plentywood Lutheran Church. Myra was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church until transferring to the Nathanael Lutheran Church. She was a member of the choir, bridge club and active in the Sheridan County Democratic Central Committee.
Myra's family frequently referred to her as a "STUBBORN DANE" which she didn't mindsince she was very proud of her Danish heritage. Alvin and Myra traveled to both Denmark and Norway to visit their respective homelands. For years the family made frequent outings to Clear Lake, enjoying boating, waterskiing, and swimming. In 1985 they built a vacation retreat at Blacktail Dam, where they added fishing to their activities.
She was an excellent cook. Her meatballs were everyone's favorite and nobody could make gravy like Myra. She was a phenomenal baker, famous for her lefse. Potlucks weren't complete without her scalloped potatoes and wieners. She was also an expert seamstress. Her garden and flowers were very important to her. For Myra mowing was a form of relaxation. Always protective of her garden, she enjoyed trapping unwanted varmints. Myra was always ready for the game of HER choice. When no one was available she was content to do all of the puzzles in the daily newspaper. Her newfound love was her IPAD which brought her many hours of enjoyment.
Being a very independent, private and humble person, she was not comfortable being the center of attention or in the limelight. Myra was a very strong person which was demonstrated by outliving her cancer prognosis by more than 3 good years. She remained on the family farm until recently.
Myra was very supportive of anything Alvin was involved in and shared his love for John Deere equipment even up to her final days when she said "Nothing runs like a Deere". Always part of the farming operation, she hauled grain, summer fallowed, and delivered coffee and meals in between. She was also the farm bookkeeper where EVERY penny was accounted for!!! Myra was Alvin's loyal partner for 59 years. Alvin wore the coveralls but Myra wore the pants in the family.
Myra is survived by four daughters and their families; Coleen (Gail) Sundsted, Jan (Cary) Sundsted, Carol Christensen, and Shelley (Gene) Tufton and by her brother Lloyd (Cherril) Sorensen, sisters-in law, Ethel Sorensen, Violet Sorensen and Pat Christensen. She is also
survived by her grandchildren, Troy (Mandie) Sundsted, Treasure (Dan) Ransom, Krista (Cory) Moore, Amber Sundsted, Miranda (Matt) Dickson, Terra (Dave) O'Brien; Jared, Hunter and Christofer Tufton. Myra also had 13 great-grandsons Zachary, Walker, Dawson, Alec and Joshua Sundsted, Jordan and Peyton Ransom, Kellan, Leyton, and Gannon Moore, Jackson and Grady O'Brien, and Drew Dickson. She was finally blessed with a great-granddaughter Ella Dickson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
